Fake certificate, document racket busted


Dimapur police busted a major racket involved in forging and selling fake certificates and documents of various government offices, police, schools, colleges, universities etc of different states of the Northeast and arrested the kingpin of the racket Muantuo Sailo from his residence at Block 3, Ward No. 9, Chumukedima on Tuesday.SDPO Niuland K Kahlo told newspersons that during a raid at the residence of the prime accused Muantuo, fake certificates and documents of various government officials, schools, school boards, computer institutes, colleges, Bible colleges, universities and various government offices with forged signatures, 151 fake rubber stamps and seals of various government officials, school authorities and university authorities as well as police and IR(Bn) letter pads of Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram besides computers sets, lamination machine, and colour printers were recovered. Altogether 171 school cumulative record books and various fake certificates, documents as well as original holograms of Nagaland University were also seized from the residence of the accused. Police said original holograms of NU were very restricted materials and wondered how the accused managed to get hold of it.The police team comprising ten personnel and led by SDPO Niuland K Khalo raided the house of the main accused at around 6.30 am on Tuesday. However, he managed to give the police the slip. When the police team caught hold of his brother and applied other methods to nab him, Muantuo surrendered to them later. Police said the accused used to sell the certificates and documents to his clients at the rate of Rs 5000 to Rs 10,000 per certificate or document.Police have not ruled out involvement of a gang as well as other connections in the racket which was being run for at least past three years now. Police also hoped that with the arrest of the main accused, the real story would unfold and more arrests are likely. The accused has been charged under impersonification and forgery, use of fake documents as well as genuine certificates and under a criminal conspiracy against the clients. Mulantuo, a Mizo, who was born and brought up in Nagaland, is the son of a retired ABSI, Nagaland Police and is currently residing at Chumukedima. Responding to the query whether Muantuo’s clients used the certificates to get employment, police asserted that action would be taken against found using the fake documents and their services would be terminated immediately. The accused also confessed to police of his crime. The main accused also runs a beauty parlour (Head Turner) at New Market, near Punjab National Bank, Dimapur. KYKL clarifies on killing of Prof Islamuddin
