Senapati, Ukhrul too join the protests with strike calls

IMPHAL, Feb 17: A 12-hour Senapati district bandh from 4 am to 4 pm tomorrow has been called by the Naga People’s Organization (NPO), Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) and Senapati District Student’s Association (SDSA) in relation to the inhuman killing of the SDO and two others.The apex organisations condemned the barbaric act of killing where the faces of the victims were smashed by stones beyond identification and demanded immediate investigation and punishment of the culprits by the concerned authority.It also further questioned the culprits, whoever they represented individually or by any organisation as to why the victims were kidnapped from some other place and killed in such a gruesome way in Senapati district thereby creating a negative image of the district which could not be pardoned.The organisation also shared the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family members and appealed to every responsible citizens and organisation to condemn the merciless killing of innocent lives.Meanwhile, in relation to the incident a 24-hour Ukhrul district bandh has been called by the Tangkhul organisations in protest against the killing of the SDO and two others.The bandh has been called to protest the senseless killings, by apex organisations like the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Mayar Ngala Long (MNL), and Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL).The organisation condemned the gruesome incident in the strongest terms and demanded for the arrest of the person(s) responsible for committing the heinous crime.The organisations also asserted that if the deceased officer and his staff deserved punishment of such degree it should have been made public before the action was taken on them.The organisations also demanded a speedy intervention of the concerned authorities to book the culprit under the law of the land at the earliest. Grasshoppers a treat, not threat: Agri Dept

State Department of Agriculture has set at rest speculations of imminent famine and other dark forebodings due to current invasion of the long-horned grasshoppers (Tettigonidae family) in Nagaland. The department has, on the other hand, suggested consuming the edible winged creatures by the population at large as a first towards biological pest management and getting rid of the grasshopper.“Many insects are consumed as delicacy in different parts of the world. They have rich nutrient value such as protein, fats minerals and vitamins,” stated a press release issued by Director of Agriculture. The department said the commonly edible insects include grasshoppers, crickets, grubs, caterpillar beetles, winged termites, wasps and bee larvae, ants, cicadas, stink bugs and aquatic insects.
