Sidhu inspects information centre, Panthoibi emporium in Delhi


NEW DELHI, May 29: Manipur Governor Dr. Shivinder Singh Sidhu inspected the Manipur Information Centre and Manipur Panthoibi Emporium in New Delhi Wednesday afternoon.
The officers and staff members of the two establishments accorded a warm welcome to the visiting Governor. This was the first time the Governor visited the Manipur Information Centre and Manipur Panthoibi Emporium.
During his visit to the Manipur Information Centre, the Governor enquired about the number of staff in the Manipur Information Centre, number of press conferences of the chief minister and information minister conducted at the conference hall of the centre, coverage of the state government information by the national media and tourism promotional activities.
The joint director of the Manipur Information Centre briefed him about the shortage of staff as well as the non-posting of its two staff members appointed against sanctioned posts of the Centre, various efforts made by the Centre for projecting the good image of Manipur, and the information and public relations activities like issuing of press releases and press cuttings, welfare services for Manipuri communities being taken up by this Centre etc.
The Governor took the volumes of press releases for 2006-07 and 2007-08 compiled by the centre and the volume of press cuttings for 2007-08 for inspection.
During his visit to the Manipur Panthoibi Emporium, the Governor enquired about the working and financial position of the emporium. The manager of the emporium briefed him about the bad condition of the building.
The principal resident commissioner of Manipur Bhavan, Delhi, Rakesh accompanied the Governor during the visit.

Grasshoppers a treat, not threat: Agri Dept

State Department of Agriculture has set at rest speculations of imminent famine and other dark forebodings due to current invasion of the long-horned grasshoppers (Tettigonidae family) in Nagaland. The department has, on the other hand, suggested consuming the edible winged creatures by the population at large as a first towards biological pest management and getting rid of the grasshopper.“Many insects are consumed as delicacy in different parts of the world.
