DC MOKOKCHUNG LAUNCHES NEDRP

MOKOKCHUNG, Mar 5: Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Sushil  Kumar Patel has launched North Eastern District Resources Plan-NEDRP at Mokokchung on 5th March 2015 with high hopes that the NEDRP would richly  provide reliable information for effective and comprehensive planning of various developmental activities by the district administration and line departments in the district. Mokokchung district has become the second district in Nagaland state to have launched the NEDRP after Kohima district.

The NEDRP is a joint initiative of North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) and North Eastern Council (NEC) which is an effort of transferring space and geospatial technology to the users for strengthening planning and development in the state. The usage of NEDRP will give leverage for preparation of DPR, master plan document. All information layers can also be customized and have printed options.

A team of scientists from NESAC, Umiam, Meghalaya and Nagaland GIS and Remote Sensing Centre, Planning and Co-ordination department earlier highlighted the unique programme of the NEDRP, sponsored by the Ministry of DONER/NEC with an objective to strengthen the E-governance policy in the entire NE region and the major benefits from it.

Launching the NEDRP Sushil Kumar Patel urged upon all the head of offices in the district to make best use of the NEDRP to ensure that all plan activities are accurate and result oriented. He also stressed the need to cope with latest technology available in the district.

D. Chutia, Scientist-SE & PI-NEDRP, North Eastern space Application centre Umiam Maghalaya presented power point on background and highlights of the NEDRP and Er. Mhathung Kithan Project co-ordinator, Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre delivered the welcome address at the launching programme.


The programme chaired by Dr. C. Furkumzuk, Analyst, Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre was attended by district administrative officers and the head of offices in the district. (DPRO)

Grasshoppers a treat, not threat: Agri Dept

State Department of Agriculture has set at rest speculations of imminent famine and other dark forebodings due to current invasion of the long-horned grasshoppers (Tettigonidae family) in Nagaland. The department has, on the other hand, suggested consuming the edible winged creatures by the population at large as a first towards biological pest management and getting rid of the grasshopper.“Many insects are consumed as delicacy in different parts of the world. They have rich nutrient value such as protein, fats minerals and vitamins,” stated a press release issued by Director of Agriculture.
