AMWJU decides to stick to code of conduct
Imphal, Jun 26: The special general body meeting of the All Manipur Working Journalists` Union, AMWJU, which was held yesterday at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal has resolved to stand unitedly against any attempt of the state government to violate the norms and guidelines of the Press Council of India.The special general body of AMWJU was participated by members of both the electronic and print media yesterday and affirmed to follow the local code of conduct of the AMWJU and stand jointly against the violation of this local code of conduct.The AMWJU meeting also further resolved to appeal to both the government and the militant organisations not to put any kind of restrictions on the media which had a important role as mediator between the government and people in the state. The meeting further condemned the highly personal threats on some of the representatives of the AMWJU recently by one of the outfits and urged all organisations not to personalise issues related to the journalists as a whole. IMPHAL, Jun 1: Tamnganba Meetei, propaganda, communication and technical officer, military council of the KCP has condemned the joint statement of the KYKL and UNLF which stated that the KCP(MC) was a masked proxy of the Indian security forces. Imphal, May 28 2009: The last rites of Proctor of Manipur University Prof Md Islamuddin who was shot dead by armed cadres of the proscribed KYKL in the University campus on May 25 was performed today at the Kabrastan of his native birthplace Yairipok Changamdabi Mathak Leikai.
The body of Prof Islamuddin was taken back by the family members after an agreement was arrived at between the members of the JAC formed in connection with the killing and the Chief Minister during a meeting yesterday evening.

The agreement was arrived at over some demands that the JAC had placed before the Government.
Before performing the last rites, the body of Prof Islamuddin was taken from mortuary of RIMS Hospital to the campus of Manipur University where a large number of faculty members, students as well as general public paid their last respect and offered floral tributes to the departed soul.
IMPHAL, Oct 25: The irate public of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai destroyed a portion of a retaining wall which was constructed by the state IFCD as part of flood control measures three months back along the Kongba river at Kongpal Khaidem Leikai after the wall was found running long cracks this morning.The local public after discovery of the cracks on the wall constructed at the bank of Kongba river turned violent and carried out the dismantling process this morning around 10.30 am. About 10 meters of the cracked portion of the retaining wall was destroyed by them.In this connection, the local public of Kongpal Khaiden Leikai said that cracks had appeared earlier after the completion of the wall, but the cracks were filled with cement after they complained to the local MLA, Nandakumar recently.The locals said the wall was broken down as many portions of the retaining wall were found to be constructed without proper quality control.
