Memo to Assam chief minister over NC Hills

Kohima, May 28 2009: The Tenyimi People's Organization (TPO), a nine Naga tribes apex body has expressed deep pain and serious concern at the prevailing ethnic unrest and lawlessness in North Cachar Hills, Assam wherein the DHD-Jewel group has unleashed terror upon the Tenyimi Nagas.

TPO, an apex organization of the Tenyimi 'blood brothers' consisting of ten Naga tribes - Angami, Chakhesang, Rengma, Pochury, Mao, Poumai, Zeliangrong, Maram, Thangal and Inpui extensively populated over Nagaland, Assam and Manipur in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister of Assam, a copy of which was made available to NNN in Nagaland today said that 'a handful of arm banned of the so called DHD-Jewel group has unleashed terror in the NC Hills since the early part of this year, targeting innocent and peace loving Tenyimi communities'.

In the process several previous lives have been lost while several others were injured and thousands rendered homeless as their houses and properties were mercilessly burnt down and the people driven out of their villages while the administration remained a mere spectator.

Seeking the immediate intervention of the Assam Chief Minister for necessary actions to wrestle the situation before it goes out of control and in order to restore peace, harmony and normalcy in the region without delay, the TPO in a memorandum signed by President, Z..MSekhose, vice president Keku Zeliang and Secretary (Administration) P.Sani has put forth four point demands.

It demanded that the authority immediately crack down on the handful of bloodthirsty DHD-J cadres and stop them from further carrying out their killing spree and attack on our innocent brothers and sisters.

The culprit responsible should also be identified and awarded befitting punishment as per law.

Sufficient amount of ex-gratia be given to the next of kin of those killed in the ongoing hate campaign of the DHD-J and sufficient relief and compensation be given to those injured, property destroyed and rendered homeless.

Immediate measures be taken for the safe returns and rehabilitation of those rendered homeless and still lingering around in relief camps by providing immediate financial assistance so that they return to their village and restart new life.

That the government takes necessary measures to win back the confidence of the people by assuring full proof safety and security of the Tenyimi communities in NC Hill district so that such ugly incidences are not repeated even in future, the TPO demanded. (E-PAO)
