AMWJU decides to stick to code of conduct

Imphal, Jun 26: The special general body meeting of the All Manipur Working Journalists` Union, AMWJU, which was held yesterday at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal has resolved to stand unitedly against any attempt of the state government to violate the norms and guidelines of the Press Council of India.The special general body of AMWJU was participated by members of both the electronic and print media yesterday and affirmed to follow the local code of conduct of the AMWJU and stand jointly against the violation of this local code of conduct.The AMWJU meeting also further resolved to appeal to both the government and the militant organisations not to put any kind of restrictions on the media which had a important role as mediator between the government and people in the state. The meeting further condemned the highly personal threats on some of the representatives of the AMWJU recently by one of the outfits and urged all organisations not to personalise issues related to the journalists as a whole.

KYKL clarifies on killing of Prof Islamuddin

IMPHAL, May 30: The underground KYKL in a lengthy clarification on the matter of its killing Prof. Islamuddin of the Manipur University, said it understands the outrage of the public in the killing of a teacher, but is saddened by the response of Meitei Pangal organisations that the KYKL had targeted a Meitei Pangal deliberately. It said this was far from the truth and that the KYKL treats Meitei Pangals, Meitei Chistians, Meitei Buddists, Meitei Hindus, Meitei Athiests as belonging to one Meitei community, and this is very much enshrined in its constitution. MOTIHARI/IMPHAL, DECEMBER 1 (AGENCIES): The mystery surrounding the whereabouts of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) chairman Rajkumar Meghen, who went missing after being reportedly caught in Bangladesh about two months ago, was over finally when he was arrested at Motihari in Bihar on Tuesday. A Manipur-based banned outfit, UNLF is the oldest militant group in the northeast. It has been fighting for Manipur’s separation from India. Meghen is a member of Manipur’s royal family of Manipur. He studied international relations in Kolkata’s Jadavpur University Meghen’s father Rajkumar Madhurayyajit was an army officer in the Allied Forces during the British rule and had founded SSB for Manipur and Nagaland in Imphal.
