CM appeals to JAC, families to take back bodies; Says 90 percent demands will be fulfilled; criminal proceedings only after enquiry report
IMPHAL, Feb 21: The chief minister Okram Ibobi has appealed to the JAC against the SDO killings and family members of the deceased to take the dead bodies of Dr. Th Kishan Singh, Y Token and A Rajen Sharma and perform their last rites as there was surety that the government was already in a position to fulfill 90 percent of the demands put up by the JAC.The appeal was made by the chief minister at a press conference held today at his conference hall.
He further stated that regarding the criminal proceedings against the DC Ukhrul, it could only be done after the fact finding was completed by an enquiry committee.
On the incident of firing of tear gas shells at the house of Dr. Th Kishan, in which his brother was hurt, he said that the house was full with people during the curfew hours and the security forces took the action to prevent a mob from forming at the place. He also said it could have happened at any other house under the circumstances.
The chief minister also said that the government had agreed to the proposal for construction of memorial sites or monuments in memory of the deceased at the DC complex Ukhrul, and at Kasom Khullen and Lukhrabi Thong in Senapati and the works would proceed after a discussion with the JAC.
On the demand for a dignified public space for the cremation of the deceased government officials, he said this also could be discussed with the JAC.
Regarding safety measures for government employees posted in the hill districts, particularly Meitei officials, he said that the workers could work at the DC office in case they felt insecure, and if they were required to go to other remote places in the hills they should go with escorts to the work site.
About the three missing officials, he said the AR had rescued them this morning around 3.30 am from Toloy in Ukhrul.
The chief minister urged the people to withdraw their agitation and help restore normalcy as there was surety of 90 percent of the demands made by the JAC being met.
He also appealed to the JAC and family members of the deceased to take the dead bodies and perform the last rites to calm down the situation in the state.(IFP)
