Late night blast at Chingmeirong leaves shopkeeper injured

IMPHAL, Jun 3: A shopkeeper was severely wounded by splinters and six shops, including two on the opposite side, were badly damaged when a powerful blast at Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai, on the side of the NH-39, shattered the silent night at around 10 pm tonight.The bomb was so powerful that a pit of around five feet diameter with a depth of around three feet appeared at the site where the bomb was planted. It also destroyed four shops located adjacent to the site totally and also caused to the shutters of two shops located on the opposite side.However, only one shopkeeper who was inside his shop named Vim Doshnet, 30, son of Prem Bahadur sustained injuries by the splinters from the bomb. Police could not immediately confirm what kind of bomb was exploded.The severely wounded Vim was immediately evacuated to the RIMS hospital by the personnel of 39 Assam Rifles posted at Chingmeirong, not far from the blast site.He received injuries all over his body.According to the Assam Rifles who rushed to the spot immediately on hearing the blast sound, they brought the wounded person to the hospital.The four adjacent shops were blown apart by the impact of the bomb which exploded in front of it. Two of the shops dealing in grocery items were destroyed totally along with two shops dealing in pan.Shutters of two more shops opposite to the four shops were also broken by the impact of the bomb.Locals were mum on the incident. Superintendent of police imphal west, L Kailun along with his subordinate officers also rushed to the spot and inspected the blast site.They detected 36 numbers of Rs.100 denomination notes, 25 numbers of Rs.50 notes, three numbers of Rs. 20 notes and 21 numbers of Rs. 10 notes near a shop damaged by the blast.The blast occurred in the front portion of the shops owned by one Thokchom Dhankumar of Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai which were rented to others.

KYKL clarifies on killing of Prof Islamuddin

IMPHAL, May 30: The underground KYKL in a lengthy clarification on the matter of its killing Prof. Islamuddin of the Manipur University, said it understands the outrage of the public in the killing of a teacher, but is saddened by the response of Meitei Pangal organisations that the KYKL had targeted a Meitei Pangal deliberately. Grasshoppers a treat, not threat: Agri Dept

State Department of Agriculture has set at rest speculations of imminent famine and other dark forebodings due to current invasion of the long-horned grasshoppers (Tettigonidae family) in Nagaland. The department has, on the other hand, suggested consuming the edible winged creatures by the population at large as a first towards biological pest management and getting rid of the grasshopper.“Many insects are consumed as delicacy in different parts of the world. They have rich nutrient value such as protein, fats minerals and vitamins,” stated a press release issued by Director of Agriculture. The department said the commonly edible insects include grasshoppers, crickets, grubs, caterpillar beetles, winged termites, wasps and bee larvae, ants, cicadas, stink bugs and aquatic insects.
